Cats in Kondhwa
I received a call at about 11 pm on Friday. The caller claimed that cats owned by Mrs. Rebello had been locked on the terrace of Mrs. Rebello’s building. It was alleged that this was done by the manager and security guards as they did not like the cats in the building. It was a desperate situation as the cats were starving for 3 days.
I went to the Kondhwa police station and explained the situation. To my surprise, a team of 4 policemen and a sub-inspector accompanied me. Once again, I was traveling in a police vehicle… with a whole police team.
While it was hard to keep the cat owner calm, it was important to do so as the police were clearly finding it hard to get on with their task. The chairman and secretary of the society were woken up and they began to hunt for the keys to the terrace. Finally, the cats were located and handed back to the owner. We could not establish whether the cats went there on their own or were kept there involuntarily, as the door to the terrace was a grill that allowed space for cats to go in and out.
I left them with the police and was back in the office at 1 am.
