July 14, 2009 at 6:31 AMHey, I see here that you all have saved a lot of animals. If I were to come across an animal, which is hurt and in need and due certain reasons I am unable to help, is ot okay if I call you all for help, or do I have to be a member or in the system or so? The reason I ask is because I see a lot of dogs in my area (stray of course). Many injured others malnourished in worse condition. My family is against me helping them. I do help them in my way (secertly) but it is not enough. I want to help them. Could I call you all ?
Thanks
Suchitra.

July 16, 2009 at 8:58 AMHi! You can always help animals, you do not need to be a part of any NGO to do so. You can also volunteer with an associate NGO… “ResQ” 9890334433. As far as your family’s resistance is concerned, it is for you to think the best way out. Most of the times you can help animals by doing some tasks that may not involve animal handling… like administration, awareness, handling calls… may be your family would not mind those tasks. Also right communication and explanation of facts can help get over the resistance. The movement surely needs people who can help the movement grow stronger. Also remember animal rights and animal welfare is a fascinating movement that covers a huge number of issues, dogs are just one of them. So you might just find something that clicks for you once you become a part of the movement.
Please call up ResQ to find out how you can help the animals, without really spending all your day on it, or actually handling animals… if these are the two obstacles to your urge of helping animals.

PS : 15 years into the movement and my family _still_ opposes my involvement in it… you are not the only one

September 29, 2009 at 2:20 PMA chicken shop in Magarpatta(Amir) probably selling rabbit meat too. Spotted 3-4 rabbits in a cage outside their shop. Is it legal to sell rabbit meat?
Manoj Oswal says:
September 29, 2009 at 8:08 PMThough rabbit selling is legal in India… there are no norms for slaughtering them. As per the current laws, they need to be regulated by the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (Slaughter House) Rules 2001. They can not be slaughtered just wherever the shop owner pleases.
I will check the shop and see what I can do. I am sure we can do about it.
