DNA : Five turtles seized from shop owner
He was caught a year ago with 20 turtles and 10 parrots

The Dattawadi police on Saturday seized five turtles from pet shop owner Tushar Karde and booked him under sections 9, 39 and 40 of the Indian Wildlife Protection Act, 1972.
The accused was remanded in a day’s police custody on on Sunday, which was extended by two days after more turtles were found in his godown.
Acting on a tip-off, a police team and animal welfare officer Manoj Oswal, caught the shop owner red-handed with two Indian tent turtles.
Later, three soft-shelled turtles were also discovered from his godown.
It is alleged that the accused has been buying turtles from markets in Mumbai and Sangli. The Indian tent turtles are originally found in the Ganges and rivers in the North-East. The species is protected and covered under schedule I of the Indian Wildlife Protection Act, 1972.
Oswal said, “The strong team work, dedication and determination of the police led to the cracking of this case.”
The police said the accused was caught a year ago with 20 turtles and 10 parrots and was released on bail after being booked under section 11 of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, 1960.
