Major races stopped in Nanded
Malegaon in Nanded is host to a major fair visited by 5 lakh people. We were told about the major attraction being the bull races and races involving horses, camels, donkeys, mules and other animals. Also we were told of cock fights being a part of the games.
Mr Anil Kataria who has been leading this movement asked me to join him in the mission to stop these cruel sports.
We informed Mrs Maneka Gandhi of the event who spoke to the collector and the SP of the region.
When we arrived, we met the collector and local activists. We ensured that the ban was enforced and not races or animal events were held.
The district administration to its credit, handled the large crowd well and did not in spite of the law and order problems created by animal owners, no races where permitted.
