Maneka calls CP for lost pup Society secy allegedly disposes of puppy without informing owner. Cops spring into action after Maneka Gandhi calls up police commissioner By Vishakha Sharma Posted On Tuesday, July 07, 2009 at 03:08:39 AM Kiki, the pup that went missing from the Forum Condominium society; (right) PFA head Maneka Gandhi, who stepped in to help In another crackdown on animal abusers, the police have registered a case against Satish Nagpal, secretary of Forum Condominium society in Wanowrie, for his alleged involvement in having a pup adopted by Naheed Khan, removed from the society. Naheed had brought Kiki, the pup, to the society as a replacement of the security dog that had died some years ago. Naheed Khan said, “Since I had to go out of India, I handed over Kiki to Dr Khambatta and Dr Fernandez who live in the society and volunteered to take care of the dog.” Soon other residents of the society objected to keeping Kiki in the society and Naheed Khan, who had gone abroad promised to shift the dog as soon as she returned to India. Since the objections still persisted, Sucheta Viswanathan of Animal Farm volunteered to house the animal at her house till Naheed’s return. On July 2, the dog went missing from the society. Dr Khambatta contacted Manoj Oswal, animal welfare officer of the Animal Welfare Board of India (AWBI), who suggested them to take help from the police. “The police refused to register a complaint for two days. When asked for a reason for refusing to register a complaint, the police said that they will neither register a complaint nor give any written explanation,” Dr Khambatta said. Oswal said, “When the police refused to cooperate, I informed Maneka Gandhi about the incident. She immediately called up the senior police inspector and ensured that an FIR was filed and investigation proceeded. In spite of being booked in a cognisable offence, the accused Satish Nagpal was neither arrested nor his statement recorded. Maneka Gandhi then called up Dr Satyapal Singh, the commissioner of police, who also is a People For Animals (PFA) life member. He immediately issued orders to arrest Nagpal and locate the dog. After the incident, Nagpal has reportedly flown to UK.” In their FIR, residents of Forum Society have also named Rajendra Kelshikar as an accused because Nagpal claimed he had handed over the dog to the three men on Kelshikar’s instructions. “I was shocked to learn that Kiki has been missing from the garden and was taken away to be dumped at an unknown place,” said Naheed Khan.

In another crackdown on animal abusers, the police have registered a case against Satish Nagpal, secretary of Forum Condominium society in Wanowrie, for his alleged involvement in having a pup adopted by Naheed Khan, removed from the society.

Naheed had brought Kiki, the pup, to the society as a replacement of the security dog that had died some years ago.

Naheed Khan said, “Since I had to go out of India, I handed over Kiki to Dr Khambatta and Dr Fernandez who live in the society and volunteered to take care of the dog.”

Soon other residents of the society objected to keeping Kiki in the society and Naheed Khan, who had gone abroad promised to shift the dog as soon as she returned to India.
