Raid at yevatmal – 11 animals rescued
In a raid by Angad Deshmukh, Savan Deshmukh and his team 11 animals from small dingy cages in a temple.
I was able to guide the youngsters and the forest officers in the raid but things went cold after the raid. The panchanama was done, but animals not shifted to a rescue center and they remained captive.
I called up an officer in the Ministry of Environment and Forests and initiated a complaint against the forest officers. A call from New Dehli was all that got them to act and finally all the surviving 10 animals were shifted (1 bluebull died due to illness it already had). I have also requested an enquiry into how the wild animals could remain in captivity for so long in a public place without coming to the notice of the forest department.
In the mean time, the key purpose has been served. The monkeys are slated to be released back into the wild, while the blue bulls and peacocks would be shifted to a zoo as they can not survive on their own.
