I an another raid at Pune railway station a snake ‘charmer’  I caught a snake charmer red handed with snakes. I held him tight getting him loaded into an auto. He resisted and 20 people surrounded me.

I kept forcing the snake charmer into the rickshaw. For 20 minutes he resisted and I held him tight and finally put him into a rickshaw. He was taken to the forest office and the complaint was registered. In no time more than 50 people reached the forest office and put all kind of pressure on to me to take the complaint back.

I could only tell them ” The govt has given me the authority to lodge a compliant, it hasn’t given me the right to forgive anyone, that can only be done by a court. If they wanted to plead, they can plead in the court”

The snake ‘charmer’ was produced in the court the next day who gave him to 3 days police custody. So the man then spent 4 total days in lock up.

The snakes we caught were hungry and thirsty for ages. They drank water like fish and were too feeble to eat. We sent them to the Katraj rescue center.

Its really heartening to know that now the snake charmers have stopped using real snakes for their shows.
